You decide where your people live — on this phone alone, or in an account that follows you. Both are encrypted; only one ever leaves the device.
You don’t need an account, and nothing gets sent anywhere. Your contacts are stored in an encrypted database on your phone and nowhere else.
If you get a new phone, you can move your contacts using a backup file you export yourself. That’s the only way.
Sign in with Apple or Google, and your contacts will be available on every device you use. Everything is encrypted during transfer and while stored, and only your account can access it.
When you use an account, we keep a copy for you. If you prefer not to have any copies stored, just use the first option.
The database on your phone is encrypted, so it can’t be opened by anything else. We use proven, standard cryptography and haven’t invented anything new for this.
The key stays in your phone’s Keychain and is marked for this device only. It isn’t included in any backup, even encrypted ones, so the file can’t be opened on another phone.
Every time Dotty starts, both of its data folders are set to be excluded from backups, including photos and attachments. This way, no readable copy ends up in iCloud.
Sign in with Apple or Google. Dotty never sees your password, because there isn’t one.
There’s no analytics SDK, no ad SDK, and no data broker. Nothing you write is sent to any AI model, and searches happen right on your device using your own data.
You can export everything as a single file, including photos and attachments. You can also delete your account right in the app, with no need to send an email or fill out a form.
